KAMALI

About

Nominated for a Bafta in the Best British short film category, “Kamali“ follows the story of a seven-year-old girl, the only female skateboarder in a small fishing village Mahabalipuram, India. Directed by Sasha Rainbow, the 24-minute film sheds light on the young skateboarder, redefining gender roles amidst the backdrop of a rapidly changing India.

Why?

My interest and love for film drew me to this project, after watching just the trailer for this film, it was instantly attention grabbing and heartwarming. Human stories and female experiences are prevalent within this film which is why I included it as part of my wider research to express it’s importance to my own design work. Overall, it is an incredible story and hugely impressive.
