ANNIE
ATKINS
Annie Atkins is an author and graphic designer in Dublin, Ireland, where she specialises in making paper props for period filmmaking.
For example, she designed the map in the latest Indiana Jones movie, plus many pieces for Steven Spielberg and Wes Anderson.
Her first book, Fake Love Letters, prompted Jeff Goldblum to write that “Annie makes the unreal seem hyperreal, and the real more supremely alive and utterly magical”.
Her second book, Letters from the North Pole, picked by the Sunday Times one of their top 21 children’s books of the year.
Why?
I was first introduced to Annie’s work while watching ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, which is one of my favourite films.
Making and designing physical, tangible work is most interesting to me, being able to hold or interact with something that was once just on a screen.
I also like ephemera design, having a collection of things that is part of the same story or project, making it feel more substantial. I would like to explore this type of design in the future.
